WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO BE A WRITER?

''Because stories make the world go round. They're how we learn from the past, and how we build a better future. Life can be short, bleak, and full of disappointment, so I think it's up to us to bring as much hope, fun and magic into the world as we can.

Besides, it lets me put all the weirdness in my head to good use!''

WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR IDEAS?

''From the things I love, and the people who inspire me - especially my partner-in-crime. But, I must admit, I sometimes get ideas at the most unexpected times; like on a random walk, or cooking a curry, and I think 'Ooh! I gotta write that down!'.''

WHO ARE SOME YOUR FAVOURITE CHARACTERS?

''Easy. Favourite individual - Black Cat. Favourite team - the X-Men. I've always been a proud mutant!

Outside of comics I have to say Peter Petrelli (Heroes) and the Tenth Doctor (Doctor Who).''

WHAT DO YOU WANT TO ACHIEVE?

''Simply put, I want to make people smile. As much as I'm tempted to say something like an exclusive contract with someone like Marvel or DC, I think what I really want is to make interesting stories with characters that people can really relate to and enjoy.

I know that my that life is limited to a single perspective, and that I can never truly understand what countless people experience on a daily basis. But, if I can get just one person to read my stories and notice a character and feel a connection, or say 'Wow! This is surprisingly well written!' then I know I would've done my job right.

And if not, then that only gives me more motivation to be better.''

DO YOU HAVE ANY PREFERRED AUTHORS?

''Three I can immediately say are the likes of G.WILLOW WILSON, JOANNE STARER, and JADZIA AXELROD. Wilson's portrayal of characters like Poison Ivy utilises such boundless complexity, charm, and gravitas that easily  reveals why she is so acclaimed.

I could say similar commendations about the strength and humanity Axelrod gifted characters like Hawkgirl and Galaxy, and I've been an avid reader of Starer's 'Fire & Ice' series since its release in 2023.

Also, having spoken to Starer online, I can confirm she is indeed a lovely person.''

Q&A

WHAT'S THE BEST PART ABOUT WRITING?

''The inspiration. That pure creative rush of ideas you get that makes you feel like you've just thought of the next best thing ever. Before all of the nitty gritty, before all of the doubt, before all the redrafts, you have that spark that ignites something I know every creative knows - and it's beautiful.''

WHAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO CONSIDER WHEN MAKING A STORY?

''The audience. You have to know who you're writing for, and they can be your greatest strength or your ultimate downfall. Don't fall into the trap of thinking you're writing something for others when you're actually writing something for yourself. That can be great, but don't get your wires crossed.

Listen, respect, and learn, and you'll be well on your way.''

HOW DID YOU LEARN?

''By doing. To be honest, I know I'm a small fish in a very big pond, but I learnt by not only reading and watching as much as I can, and really empathising with the characters, but also actively joining and engaging with communities of likeminded people. Besides that, thank God that YouTube exists, and that there are people in my life willing to listen and feedback.''

WHAT'S THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE OF BEING A WRITER?

''The fact that trying to make it as a writer is brutal. You work tirelessly, build yourself up to be better constantly, and pour your heart and soul out into every one of your works, and what do you get for it? Most likely; nothing.

That sense of perpetual invisibility - like no one cares, or ever will care because there's a million million people who do what you do but better or more uniquely can be soul-crushing. But, when I finish a story and I look back at it and think 'That was me. I did that. I made something.' can be extremely cathartic, and in the end I think if you never stop creating that's all that matters.''

WHAT ARE SOME RESOURCES YOU WOULD RECOMMEND?

''Read. As. Much. As. You. Can. Seriously. Watch, read, do - it all helps to expand your skills and way you approach things. Getting out of your comfort zone and seeking out people online who may have more experience could also be extremely valuable.

Each day is its own journey, so writing what you know is a bounty in of itself.''

HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH A BLOCK?

''Oof. Tricky but inevitable. I would say the best thing for you to do is give it time, but keep it in the back of your mind. Sometimes solutions come at the most random times.

One time I was wondering how to instigate a finale for a fanwork issue, and I got the idea whilst cleaning out a dishwasher! It had no relevance whatsoever, but somehow it gave me that lightbulb moment, and for that, I thank that dishwasher.''
